I was born in Lynn, Massachusetts on February 9, 1819, one of 12 children. In 1876 I began marketing my vegetable compound  which was billed as "a positive cure for all those painful complaints and weaknesses so common to our best female population", which made me one of America's first and most successful female entrepreneurs.
